Manchester Women set their priorities for the City

Members of Manchester Labour Women’s Forum spent the day at a special event to mark International Women’s Day yesterday asking Manchester women to set their top three priorities for the City.

Suzanne Richards and Grace Fletcher-Hackwood from Manchester Labour Women’s Forum will today present the responses to Councillor Sir Richard Leese and Councillor Val Stevens, Leader and Deputy Leader of the Council.

Suzanne Richards, Labour Campaigner for Longsight said:
“It is appropriate that on International Women’s Day we will be giving our leaders a clear message of what women in Manchester see as the top priorities for the future of their City.“

“We were delighted with the level of response we got on the day.We had the full spectrum of Manchester women setting their priorities for the City. Our youngest respondent was 12. She wanted more lighting in the play area in Whitworth park, more activities for those 13 and under and even jobs for under 13 year olds!”

Council Deputy Leader, Val Stevens said:
"It is important that the Council's priorities reflect the priorities of the people we represent. Affordable housing, jobs and the environment came out as the most important issues and we will ensure that policy makers take note of what women want."
