Future Jobs Fund Wrong Cut Wrong Time

Longsight Councillors Abid Chohan and Suzanne Richards, along with the Executive Member for Parks, Councillor Mike Amesbury, met with some of Manchester Parks Future Jobs Fund trainees recently to thank them for all their hard work in Crowcroft Park.

Councillor Chohan said: “These trainees have made a real difference. Crowcroft is a very popular park and as a result there are increased pressures to keep it clean and up to Green Flag standard! The local community really appreciate the work these young men have been doing.”

Councillor Amesbury, Executive Member for Parks said: “The Future Jobs Funds, under which these young people have been employed, has been scrapped by the Coalition Government without any warning or consultation. Local Councillors and I wanted to show our support for the Future Jobs Fund and the good work our trainees are doing across Manchester. We value their hard work and commitment even if the Government doesn’t.”

“We want the Government to think again about the decision to abandon this scheme and the 100,000 jobs it would have created for young unemployed people.”

The £1bn Future Jobs Fund, set up by the Labour Government was used to help long-term unemployed people, in particular young people, into work.
