Bell Tolls on Peel Development
City Centre Campaigner Anthony McCaul and Councillor Pat Karney have listened to residents’ concerns and are calling for Peel Holding’s proposals to build space-age apartments on Jackson’s Wharf in
Castlefield to be dropped.
The proposals, to build flats on a small tract of land in the middle of the Castlefield Basin, have been met with fury with over 130 objections by local residents.
City Centre Campaigner Anthony McCaul said: “The development by Peel Holdings is totally out of keeping with the character of Castlefield. This area is one of the jewels in Manchester’s crown –
with rich industrial heritage. This proposal – more in keeping with something out of Star Trek – is unacceptable. I’m calling on the Council to turn down this application and want Peel to engage
constructively with residents about the site.”
City Centre Council Chief Pat Karney said: “The Council should reject this proposal and Peel should go back to the drawing board – reducing the size and density of this development to meet
residents’ concerns.”
