Late night shoppers eager to look their best for Eid descended into the GNR8 Youth & Community Centre in Whalley Range for a Chand Raat special.
The ‘ladies and children only’ night saw musicians, henna artists, mouth watering food and glittering saris and lengha keep everyone happy the night before Eid.
Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Glynn Evans also popped into say hello with Former Lord Mayor Councillor Afzal Khan.
Councillor Afzal Khan said: "Though it was a women's night only, the mayor wanted to wish everyone a personal 'happy eid.' The local ladies and children loved meeting the Mayor.”
The Chand Raat was a very successful event and I am glad to see similar events taking place throughout Manchester."
The event was organised by Friends of Al-Buraaq with funding from the city council and help from local groups, Friends of Manley Park and Whalley Range Celebrate. It is estimated over 1000 local
people attended the event during the night.
Local councillor Mary Watson said, “Chand Raat event is a wonderful way of bringing all the community together, so that through fun we can learn and share things with one another. Well done to all
the ladies for organising this excellent event in Whalley Range”
Committee members Shamshad Iqbal and Amina Lone said, “We are delighted with the turn out and the positive feed back that we have received. We are now looking forward to organising an even bigger
event next year for all the family”
