Chorlton Leisure Centre gets a makeover

Chorlton Leisure Centre is next in line to get a face-lift as part of a city-wide programme of improvements across leisure facilities in Manchester.

Amina Lone, Labour candidate for Chorlton has been pressing the council to improve this much loved facility.

Over £100,000 is being invested in the centre by Manchester City Council and Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust, which will provide an upgrade to both squash courts, a full gym refurbishment and a new, more efficient filtration system for the pool. The works will also see improvements to internal lighting and essential roof maintenance completed.

Labour Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure said: “We are currently carrying out significant improvements at leisure centres right across Manchester as part of our continued commitment to improving sports facilities for our local community. Manchester is making large-scale investments to not only improve the facilities but also access to them as well and are, for example, offering free swimming to those aged 16 and under and over 60 in all our pools, as part of this wider aim.”

Chorlton gym members will benefit significantly from a total overhaul with over £30,000 invested in the very latest health & fitness equipment, including 2 state-of-the-art Octane Cross Trainers, which have already proved popular in other gyms including Withington Leisure Centre and the Manchester Aquatics Centre.

Improvements to Chorlton Leisure Centre follow those already underway at Levenshulme Swimming Pools which include; new shower areas, toilets and changing cubicles & lockers, internal decoration and essential roof replacement and structural works.

Work on all upgrades and renovations is being carried out by Manchester City Council in partnership with the Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust, with additional funding coming from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Sport England.
