Call for action on “Party Lets”
City Centre Labour Campaigner Anthony McCaul is calling for tough action to tackle the increasing problem of 1 night and weekend “party lets” in Manchester City Centre.
Residents in one landmark development have contacted Anthony regarding their concerns about weekend revellers renting out apartments in their block for weekends, creating noise and havoc and making
residents feel unsafe.
Anthony is calling for a crack down on problem “party lets” and has demanded the Council’s influential Neighbourhoods Scrutiny Committee examines the issue. Anthony is proposing the regulation of
“party lets” with a registered landlord scheme and contact details for letting agents provided to residents so that they can report any problems so swift action can be taken. The possibility of
making this type of short term let illegal is also being considered.
Anthony said: “Our apartment blocks are not hotels and residents are rightly concerned about the noise and disruption caused by weekend revellers taking over their homes at weekends. I’m calling
for tough action to tackle what seems to be an increasing problem. I want the initial approach to be regulation and registration but have not dismissed the idea of making “party lets”
illegal.”
